01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The savory aroma of charcoal-grilled skewers and the fragrant steam rising from simmering dashi easily draw passersby inside. Located in the Oda Building in Minami-Otsuka 3-chome, Stand Dansu is an izakaya featuring counter seating and a relaxed raised seating area, serving thoughtfully crafted dishes alongside a wide selection of drinks.

Charcoal-Grilled Skewers and Richly Simmered Classic Oden

A natural place to begin is the yakitori, which ranges from familiar staples like chicken and scallion negima, chicken heart, and sasami tenderloin with wasabi to prized cuts such as dakimi, chicken oyster, and hatsumoto. Carefully grilled over charcoal, the skewers are compact yet concentrated with flavor, pairing smoothly with a first drink. The other pillar of the menu is oden, featuring thoroughly soaked daikon radish alongside tender mochi-kinchaku pouches, deep-fried tofu, boiled egg, and beef tendon. Ordering the chef's choice five-piece assortment, which always includes daikon, offers a direct taste of the broth's depth in a single serving.

Fresh Fish, Creative Small Plates, and Oden Broth Variations

Between skewers and oden, the kitchen prepares a varied lineup of fresh seafood and drinking snacks. Dishes like seared yellowtail seasoned with sansho pepper salt, casual torotaku rolls of minced fatty tuna and pickled radish, and deep-fried oden daikon with crisp batter releasing seasoned broth bring inventive variety to the table. Uncured chorizo paired with sansho mayonnaise or rich sea urchin with squid make satisfying accompaniments to enjoy over beer or a wide range of other drinks.

From Freshly Cooked Kamameshi to Hearty Curry

Substantial rice dishes provide an equally focused conclusion to the meal. Kamameshi cooked directly in oden dashi—such as the Hakata mentaiko and shirasu baby sardine pot or the lavish kaihou-meshi seafood rice—releases a rich, savory aroma the moment the lid is removed. Diners can also finish with a fragrant tare-glazed grilled rice ball or the house-specialty spiced beef curry, depending on their appetite.

Open from 17:00 until midnight, the izakaya suits both a solo drink after work and an unhurried evening catching up with close friends.
